Me vs Game

Assistant: Hi. Do you need help with anything?
Me: Yes. I’m after a bit of advice.
Assistant: OK.
Me: I bought a PS3 here in December, and while running it over HDMI to an LCD TV the screen frequently goes black for just one second, then it comes back.
Assistant: Ooh, I haven’t heard of that before.
Me: It happens with games or movies, and on the XMB. I’m using the standard Game brand HDMI cable, sold to me when I bought the unit.
Assistant: Did you buy GameCare cover for it?
Me: No.
Assistant: In that case you need to contact Sony.
Me: No I don’t. My contract is with Game, not Sony.
Assistant: Only if you have GameCare.
Me: No it isn’t. This is covered in standard Sales of Goods legislation. My contract of sale is with Game, not Sony.
Assistant: Oh. You’ll need to talk to someone else. <scuttles away />
What the fuck? Why are shop assistants still giving out this sort of misguided bullshit to customers? I wasn’t even asking for a refund or exchange.
