Canteen: Royal Festival Hall
Oct 15th, 2007 by Intermanaut
I ate in the RFH restaurant this evening and was thoroughly disappointed. Considering I’ve eaten there every week for the last 7 weeks, I was shocked at the quality of meat that was served up with the “Gammon & Coleslaw” option. Gammon with a shiny green surface and browned edges shouldn’t be served to a customer. It was, frankly, crap. The chef should be ashamed of himself/herself.
Given that my initial order took about ten minutes to arrive, I was surprised that the replacement (rump steak, medium-rare) took another 30 minutes to turn up, especially considering that I’d already returned a meal due to its thoroughly unsatisfactory quality. The cold chips I was left with from my initial order just didn’t enhance the evening at all.
The bitter insult of the automatic addition of the gratuity was one step too far. I don’t object to paying the default percentage when the meal and service have been good, but Canteen took the proverbial this evening.
I now realise that a steak at Las Iguanas would have been a better option.
